Keep a hand pyrometer or a "heat gun" handy. It is an excellent tool for checking drum temperatures. Any drum that is much cooler than others indicates a lack of brake effort on that particular wheel.2. Mike all drums when relining brakes. Both drums on the same axle must be within .010 inches (25 mm) of the same diameter. Never attempt to reline just one wheel on an axle. When you replace brake drums, install new drums on both sides.3. Store drums with the open end face down. Never store them on the sides. When installing drums, use the same crisscross pattern of applying fasteners as wheel lugs on wheels and hubs. These tightening practices prevent drum distortion.4. Never exceed the brake drum manufacturer''s discard brake drum diameter. This figure appears on all brake drums. When checking brake drum diameter for wear, the diameter should not exceed 0.120 inches (3.0 mm) over the original diameter. The recut diameter should not exceed .080 inches (2 mm) over the original diameter. That is, after turning the drum, all at least .040 inches (1 mm) for wear. Wheel sizes range from 4 X 2 in. to 8 X 2 in. with a choice of roller, Delrin, or precision ball bearings. Typical applications include automotive plants, tire plants, food processing, floor scrubbing equipment, and aircraft/aerospace plants. Swivel nylon casters feature thermoplastic rubber tires bonded to a polypropylene wheel center. Double-sealed precision ball bearings in the swivel head and wheel hub deliver smooth operation. The casters withstand corrosion and temperatures to 230[degrees]F. They are available in wheel diameters of 100, 125, 150, and 200 mm with load capacities from 100 to 130 kg. They can be ordered with bolt holes, threaded stems, fittings for round or square tubes, fixed pins or plate mountings, and with or without brakes. A line of electrically conductive nylon casters is also available. Diagnostic aids are some of the most frequently used pieces of equipment in a general repair shop. Engine performance and driveability-related problems constitute a growing percentage of customer complaints and service bay activity. But today''s diagnostic equipment can do more than just troubleshoot engines. It can help find problems in transmissions, antilock braking systems, chassis and A/C systems, and anything else that''s managed by a microprocessor.
